Artist – Teacher – Consultant
Professional Biography

My professional life has shown evidence of a serious dedication to arts and education.

With a degree in art education, I started my career as a high school art teacher in West Irondequoit, New York. I taught for 5 years before having two children and pursuing a master’ s degree in art education at Nazareth College in Rochester, New York where I was also employed for two years as supervisor of student teaching in art education.

In 1981, I moved with my family to southern California where I started teaching at a design school (Brooks College) in Long Beach, California. It was there I gained experience in fashion design coursework and taught textiles and fashion illustration. At the same time, I bought a mail order business (Textile Resources) and sold art supplies to fiberartists across the country as well as teaching workshops and classes in dyeing and textile painting at my facility in Cypress, California.

As a professional textile artist I entered into free-lance work with many costume companies in the Southern California and was a consultant and custom dyer for the entertainment industry.

In 1993, I sold my mail order business and continued to teach at the community college level for
15 more years. I retired from teaching in 2008 because Brooks College closed that year.

In 2000, I wrote The Art of Silk Painting, a publication that is part of the Walter Foster series of art books.

I retired to Tryon, North Carolina in 2008 with hopes of continuing my textile art and painting. I have been able to do that ,but I have also continued to be drawn to the teaching of art and conduct workshops and classes in our area as well as in New York State and California.

I enjoy Chinese Brush painting, acrylic and watercolor painting, and all forms of textile art, especially painting on silk.
